TALLAHASSEE

The constitutional amendment headed to voters Jan. 29 gives back about $226 to Orange County homeowners through a beefier homestead exemption; lets homeowners take their accumulated Save Our Homes tax break to new homes; and caps future taxes for businesses and second-home owners.

"This has been a hard day," said House tax negotiator Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park. "And we've never had a more challenging decision."
